Hover your cursor over one of the two Show/Hide buttons and choose Show Selected Columns from the pop-up menu. You can use course group smart views in two ways: Students use the groups to collaborate with other students and complete group assignments. You create smart views to track their progress. You create a group to track a set of students who aren't performing well on assignments and tests.
If you're accessing your course from a mobile device or tablet or from within a small browser window, Blackboard will collapse the sidebar by default. If you have submitted an assignment and you don't see a grade, that means the instructor has probably not graded the assignment yet. The yellow exclamation point icon means that the assignment still needs grading.
To view grades for all of your courses, select the arrow next to your name in the upper-right corner. In the menu, select My Grades. You can sort your grades by All Courses or Last Graded. If your work hasn't been graded, grade status icons appear.
From the Control Panel, click on Grade Center, then Full Grade Center. Determine which column needs to be hidden. You may need to scroll to the right if your columns are not all visible. Click on the drop down menu for the column. Click Hide from Students (on/off). (This will turn on the Hide from Student)
The column will no longer be visible in the Grade Center. NOTE: If you want to hide the column from both the student's view and the instructor's view , you must hide the column from the students view first.
Adding a Total column will simply total the aggregate score of either all columns or individual columns or categories of grades. Adding an Average column will show the average of all selected items. Adding a Total or Average column is similar to adding a weighted column; if you have extra credit assignments then you MUST CHOOSE SELECTED COLUMNS and move ALL assignment columns to the selected columns window.
Smart Views of Grade Center data can be based on a simple selection of Students and columns of Gradable Items. Again, the criteria choices are a little different but the process is the same as the other Smart Views noted above
Grading Periods are user created segments that can help manage the Grade Center. Grading Periods, for example, can be defined as Terms, Semesters, Quarters, Years, and so on, and can have date ranges that further define them. Grading Periods are not created by default. If desired, they must be defined by Instructors.
A Benchmark Smart View is a view of the Grade Center based on students' performance on a single gradable item such as a mid-tern exam. The process is exactly the same as the Group Smart View explained above, but the Selection Criteria are a little different:
This enables Instructors to create certain views of the Grade Center—based on performance criteria for gradable items such as Assessments or Assignments—that quickly track Students. There are four different Types of Smart Views that specify the Student information:
A Grade Center Category is a classification of a Grade Center column of a course. For instance, “Homework,” “Test,” or “Quiz” are possible Categories that may have Grade Center columns associated with them.
Weighting means you are going to place more emphasis on certain grade categories, such as exams and written work over others like Discussion Board Posts or quizzes. The first section is common to all columns when adding. Adding a weighted column is not usual because there is one already created by default.
Three types of columns. In the Grade Center, three types of columns appear: user, calculated, and grade . Each column has a menu with options. The options that appear vary based on the type of column. When you create or edit columns, you can select settings to display the data you want in the Grade Center.
You can edit a grade column to rename it, associate it with a different category, and associate it with a rubric and grading period. You can also determine if students will see the results in My Grades, and include or exclude the column in calculations.
Last Access. Availability. You can't delete or edit default user columns. You can hide all but the first user column in the grid. If you need to hide the first column, you can rearrange the user columns on the Column Organization page. But, at least one user column must show.
Each column's menu displays options that are specific for that column. In the Grade Center, you can't change the Item Name of columns created automatically for gradable items, such as tests and assignments. You can edit the name of a gradable item in your course and the name will change in the Grade Center.
From the Full Grade Center, hover over the Manage button and then click Column Organization.
Occasionally the drag and drop function doesn't "stick." If that is the case, manually move the columns as shown below:
In the Ultra gradebook, you can delete attendance if no attendance records exist. In grid view, select the Attendance column heading to open the menu and select Delete. In list view, access the attendance row's menu to select Delete.
In grid view, you can add an attendance column next to an existing column. Select the plus sign to open the menu and select Add Attendance. In list view, select the plus sign wherever you want to add attendance and select Add Attendance. After you add attendance, the add option won't appear again.
Overall view. In the Overall view, you can mark attendance, view attendance history and class summary statistics, and create new meetings. As you mark students' attendance, their attendance grades are posted automatically. If you change students' attendance or clear marks, students see the changes immediately.
Many institutions and instructors use attendance as they focus on student retention. For each class meeting, you can mark whether a student is present, late, absent, or excused. The attendance records for each student appear in a single column next to other grades. On the Attendance page, profile pictures appear so you can easily identify students. ...
In the Overall view, you can add more than one meeting for attendance on a day. For example, if your class met for a field trip after your regularly scheduled class, you can add a meeting and mark who was present. Select the plus icon next to an existing meeting's date to add a new meeting.
In the Meeting or Overall view, you can exempt a meeting that no longer requires an attendance grade. Students' overall attendance grades update to not include the exempted meeting, even if you've marked some or all student cells. You can also clear the exemption in both views.
In the Meeting view, you can mark each student's attendance. You can also use the menu in a status's heading to mark all students present or absent. Then, you can change individual students' statuses or clear all marks. Your work is saved as you go.
