How long is the introduction to online learning at Binghamton University?

There is no charge for this orientation and it should take upwards of two hours to complete.

Save Your Blackboard Content Now

Binghamton University has changed over to D2L Brightspace as our Learning Management System. Here is the Brightspace FAQ .

Special Consideration: Export vs. Archive

Export is the option to use in order to migrate content into Brightspace. Once the export file is downloaded to your computer then Brightspace's "Import / Export / Copy Components" command can be used to bring this content into Brightspace. You could also upload your export file here and ITS will create a "CONVERTED" course.

How to Download the Blackboard Grade Center and Grade History

After the Blackboard contract ends on December 21, 2021 student work from myCourses will not be accessible even in Brightspace. If Blackboard's Grade Center was used to configure grades then it should be downloaded. The Grade History should also be downloaded.

How To Create an Export

In your course, under the Course Management Control Panel expand Packages and Utilities and click into Export/Archive Course.

Linking to Subject Guides in myCourses

The “Subject Guide” link in the Course Menu on any myCourses page opens a new web page which contains links to databases, electronic journals and books, print sources, and online research collections relevant to the course or discipline.

Adding a Librarian to the Course

Once added as a course builder or instructor, a librarian can interact with your students in a variety of ways:

Course Reserves

The Libraries uses myCourses to host electronic course reserves. For more information, consult the Libraries' Course Reserves page.

Online Tutorials

If students enroll in the Library Organization in myCourses in order to complete any of the Libraries' Online Tutorials, their participation and quiz scores will be recorded. Students will also receive confirmation certificates, available for printing.

myCourses Documentation

ITS provides myCourses trainings and tutorials as well as a helpful FAQ for Faculty.

What's New? Nothing. This system is no longer in use

Course Creation and Enrollment

myCourses allows for "real time" integration with BU Brain/Banner, the official student information / registration system on campus.

Organizations

Organizations behave somewhat like courses and contain tools that enable members to communicate efficiently. You can post information, have discussions, and share documents. Organizations are an ideal place to connect with other users with whom you share work, interests or extra-curricular activities.
