Now that many people have an instant messenger, a blog and email, people are sometimes unsure about good rules of conduct for academic discussion groups as compared to other forums. To help these students, and those who have never used a discussion group, we've brought together some suggestions for posting in Blackboard discussion groups.
It's called a discussion forum because people are actually supposed to discuss ideas! Clever, huh? That means it will only be useful if you respond to others, not just post your own messages. You will not get the best results or grades from this kind of communication if you don't react to your classmates.
When you are working on assignments or tests that will be graded, first make sure that you are using Firefox as your web browser.

“My Grades” is the online gradebook featured in most online courses at UA, where you can review your grades and your professor’s feedback as you progress through the course. Only tests, quizzes and assignments that are built in Blackboard will show up here automatically – it will be up to your instructor to include other grades here. See the video below for more information.
In an online class, professors often communicate information with the class by posting announcements at your “My Alerts” area, which you can access via the Course Menu on the left. Your professor’s announcements may include helpful reminders, valuable tips and important updates.
Courses created through Bama By Distance have a somewhat standardized layout. This may not be the case for courses that were moved from on-campus courses, but the video below should give you a general idea of how to navigate a typical course. Even if your course is not put together in quite the same way as the video describes, this should be helpful in getting you oriented.

A Temporary Leave is an interruption in studies from the university for a specified period of time after which the student is expected to return. A Temporary Leave is initiated by the student in consultation with the student's academic unit. A student’s financial aid, merit awards, university housing, and immigration status may be affected by any leave or separation from the university. Students should consult with their academic unit or the appropriate university office (Financial Aid, Office of the Dean of Students, International Student and Scholar Services, etc.) for help in determining the effects of the separation in their case.

Typically, courses are 3 credit hours each, meaning that students meet in class and/or online for 2.5 hours a week and complete academic work outside class at least five hours a week over a fifteen-week semester or the equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time.
Undergraduate students (degree and non-degree) are in Good Academic Standing if they are not on academic probation and are enrolled in semester classes, or are eligible to enroll in subsequent semester classes. There may be additional requirements for students receiving financial aid or other awards. 5.2.1.
